HearALL Assessment Recorder {GIVEAWAY} & Book-it To Me!

I just have to introduce you to my new BFF..FFFF! We will just call her HearAll Assessment Recorder from Learning Resources! This is seriously my new favorite toy and I can’t wait to put it to use with my thirdsters {is that a word?} this year! There are a billion ways that you could use this amazing gadget, {fluency assessment, reader’s theatre, literature circles, independent reading, etc.} but I can’t wait to incorporate it into our weekly “Book-it to Me” next year in third grade

Each week, my students work during independent reading time to read and respond to a chapter book that is matched with another student, or a group of students in the classroom…you know…a chit chat kinda deal with a little more oomph! {More to come about this later}.

They are in love and so am I…BUT one teacher to 6 groups makes it challenging to accurately assess each group and provide them with effective feedback to enhance their conversations and discussions about their book. Thanks to my new BFF, I have cloned my ears! I can hear everybody…yes everybody! And we all say…Hallelujah!

Hear All

By using the HearAll Assessment, I will be able to actively listen to all of my groups, monitor learning and discussions, provide effective feedback, and assess progress all at the same time! My new BFF is super easy to use which makes me love her even that much more. She comes installed with a battery that you charge using a USB cord.  It's so easy to open folders and play recordings too. Just incase that doesn’t work, she also comes with user-friendly directions to help you in all of your times of need! I am telling you, she is the perfect companion! :)

  14. I would us this math rotations. I would randomly pick a group to record so that I can play it back and use it as a teaching tool for the rest of the class.

  16. Oh my goodness! This sounds so amazing! Last year was my first year with my own group of second graders and I stuck them in groups all the time, but had the hardest time following up with the informal assessing....walking around and chatting/listening works great until one group needs help with something....
    I would love using your new BFF as I follow my second graders to third next year! It would really help me to follow up on the assessments as well as meet my personal goal of really focusing on my high achievers!

  19. This is a fun little tool and giveaway! So I got thinking and the idea of students using a warm text and recording themselves reading a story. Then making that recording the book that is featured in the listening center! They would be the "famous" reader for the week! I think that would make the kids LOVE listening center. I also think monitoring lit circles would be another great use for this tool.

  21. This is great! I would have my students work on their fluency, by reading into the "BFF" and then playing back what they read so they can hear what words they stumbled over, if their fluency has improved, etc!

  23. This would be great for me to assess and monitor student progress in reading and I would have the students listen to it themselves for self assessment. Self assessment is big at my school, no matter the grade level. I love it!

  24. Thanks Hope for offering an opportunity to win this. It seems so awesome. I would use it to be my ears during literacy block, recording children while they are reading to self or while they practice a Reader's theatre. I would love it to monitor fluency and save their work samples for conferences. The best readings could become part of our Listening station. I think it would be an awesome tool that would open many doors to the children in use of technology.

  37. There are many great ways this could be used. Right off the bat I see it in my Literature Circles group so that I can hear what they are discussing while I am with a different GR group. Then we can discuss it when they are in GR with me.

  47. This tool sounds amazing! We are incorporating the Daily Cafe into classrooms this year, along with Daily 5. I'm wondering if this tool could work for an extra Guided Reading group while I'm conferencing with other students. If I print the GR lesson and have the kids facilitate it, I could go back and listen to their responses. Could this work?

  54. First of all, I love coming to your blog because I am always so inspired (and good luck in 3rd next year!). This will be my secon stead of teaching and second year in second grade (whew a lot of seconds in that sentence!). I would use these in so many ways. I would incorporate how you mentioned it above, but would also use it for some of my students who are more shy and may not want to come to the front of the class to read and share a report. They could have the option of recording it. Also I would use it for math. For example, partial sums addition. I would have the students write out what they are saying into it and then I can look at their paper and listen to them to ensure they know the steps and are doing it correctly. I would have my new bff record when my students do their fluency test and I would play it back for the students during our mini-conference so we could discuss what errors they are making and fix-up strategies to use for better fluency.   59. I would use this in many ways but I will spare all the ways and narrow it down to 2: First, I would use it to have students record their fluency passages or reader's theater. Secondly, I want my children to interview others and this would allow them to record the interviews.

  68. Wow! What a cool tool! I would use it to keep my 5th graders on task. We would use it in centers like everyone else while I am teaching small groups. I would also use it before project presentations. Some students get very nervous, so they could practice first. I would also use it for parent conferences to show how students are progressing.
